A year into the COVID-19 pandemic, I am looking forward to longer days, more outdoor gatherings and the spectacle of the new season. Here at MAEE, we have a lot to celebrate. After six months of work, our five-year strategic plan is ready to roll out. We invite you to review the 2021-2025 strategic plan .

As temperatures slide into the 40s and 50s and there are hints of spring, I’m reflecting on the celebration that is winter in Minnesota. Saying farewell to beloved winter activities — ice fishing, skiing, winter hiking, snowshoeing and curling up with a hot cup of tea — won’t always be easy. It’s given me a tremendous amount of joy seeing so many folks embracing ‘friluftsliv’ the Norwegian lifestyle of open-air living, over the past several months.

I also wanted to highlight a unique opportunity to stay engaged and earn CEUs. I encourage you to join Teach Outdoors! Minnesota for weekly Wednesday workshops . If you attend the workshops live you will have the opportunity to receive free CEUs. You can also present and share your work with the MN education community!

We’re also searching for new board members. Join us during this exciting time for MAEE! I was able to hike with some MAEE board members at Springbrook Nature Center as part of their spring board retreat. It was a total blast and I’d love to have you join us on the trails and the team.

2nd Annual Spring Plant Sale!

It’s time to think about spring!

For the second year in a row, MAEE is proud to be partnering with Green Earth Growers in Prior Lake, MN, to offer you a selection of beautiful hanging baskets, patio containers and edible baskets for your home or workplace.

This spring plant sale fundraiser helps to support MAEE’s programming for environmental educators across Minnesota, including the eePortal resources, scholarships, conferences, and recognition awards.

Orders must be received by Wednesday, March 31st .

Plant pick-up will be Tuesday, May 4th and Wednesday, May 5th from 5-7pm at Children’s Country Day School in Mendota Heights. ( 1588 Victoria Road South, Mendota Heights, MN 55118 ). Pick up instructions and a confirmation will be emailed to you once your order is received. If you are unable to pick up your plants at this time, please contact us at maeeinfo@gmail.com . Alternate pick up times available on a case-by-case basis.

Call for BOARD MEMBERS!

The Minnesota Association for Environmental Education (MAEE), a nonprofit organization, is looking for two enthusiastic, volunteer Board Members who are passionate about environmental education in Minnesota and will guide the organization on a path of growth. Help make a lasting change in Minnesota!

The MAEE Board of Directors is made up of 10-12 directors. Board terms are two years with no more than three consecutive terms. Though workloads will vary depending on the season and assigned duties, current board members estimate they commit an average of 1-5 hours per week to MAEE activities.

Help MAEE support and connect environmental educators, and advance environmental education across the state! Grow your professional network while helping to provide scholarships, professional development opportunities, recognition events, educator connection opportunities, grants and partnerships to support programming, and more.
